Hi Janis,

Lethargy and inappetence are worrying for any cat, but particularly in a young cat like Monkey. Cats will often lick or groom if they are feeling unwell or anxious, or there could be some pain or injury that is not so obvious. There are a number of viruses that could be the cause of these clinical signs, such as Feline Infectious Peritonitis, Feline Leukemia Virus, he could be hiding an injury, or he may have eaten something that could be causing pain, distress, or even an obstruction.

Monkey needs to be examined by a vet ASAP to determine what's going on, and I would recommend that you keep both cats separate until you have a diagnosis, and until both cats are up to date with vaccinations.

Wishing Monkey a speedy recovery,

Dr Karyn
